Weavers Terms of Service
How to read this document: each section opens with a plain-English summary in italics, followed by the full legal text. The summary is there to help you understand what you're agreeing to at a glance, but if the two ever conflict, the full legal text controls.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the website and program operated by Weavers (“Weavers,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), including beaweaver.com and the matching, visit, and transcript features we provide (the “Program” or “Service”). By creating an account, checking the acceptance box, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't use the Service.
Weavers pairs a Weaver (teens over age 14, young adults, or community volunteers and career changers of any age) with a Silver (an older adult, typically age 65+), for mutually beneficial visits, conversation, and support.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (by email, text, or a notice in the Service) before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.

1. Eligibility and Roles
Weavers is for people 14 and up. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian needs to be involved and acknowledge these Terms on your behalf. Silvers are typically 65+.
The Service brings together two categories of participants: Weavers (teens over age 14, young adults, or community volunteers and career changers of any age) and Silvers (older adults, typically age 65+).
A parent or legal guardian must acknowledge participation for a Weaver under 18 (“Parent”). A Weaver account for a participant under 18 may only be created with the involvement of a Parent. By enrolling a minor Weaver, the Parent confirms they are the minor's parent or legal guardian, acknowledges these Terms and our Privacy Policy on the minor's behalf, and is the responsible contracting party for that account, as described in Section 6 (“Minors' Information”) of our Privacy Policy. We do not knowingly enroll children under age 13.
We may decline, suspend, or condition any account on additional verification at our discretion, including as part of the background-check process described in Section 3.
2. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. It's part of this agreement.
Our collection, use, and disclosure of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into and forms part of these Terms. Please read it.
3. Trust & Safety, Background Checks, and Monitoring
We run background checks and verify identity for Silvers and Weavers 18+, VolunteerBadge monitors those checks on an ongoing basis, everyone completes an orientation before a first visit, and staff review both debrief content and visit data for safety. Full detail is on our Trust & Safety page.
Participant safety is central to the Service. Before participating, Silvers and Weavers age 18 and older are subject to a background check administered by our screening partner, VolunteerBadge, or based on information collected directly by Weavers as part of registration for the purpose of facilitating that check, as described in our Trust & Safety page and our separate Background Check Disclosure and Authorization. A background check is a condition of participation for Silvers and for Weavers 18 and older. You must complete this step, and provide accurate information for it, before you may be matched.
As part of this process, we or VolunteerBadge also verify your identity — such as by confirming a government-issued photo ID. In some cases, identity may instead be verified based on personal and historical knowledge of you by a Weavers chapter coordinator or community partner, in place of a document check. Either way, identity verification is separate from, and doesn't replace, the background check itself. VolunteerBadge's background check includes ongoing monitoring for new disqualifying records for as long as you remain an active participant, not just a one-time check at registration.
Before your first visit, we also require both Weavers and Silvers (and, for a Weaver under 18, their Parent or Guardian) to complete a program orientation. Completing orientation, like completing a background check, is a condition of participation.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that:
- post-visit debrief content (text and/or voice) may be reviewed by authorized Weavers staff and processed by our AI/large-language-model vendor to help generate Weaver transcripts, as described in our Privacy Policy;
- we (or our background-check provider) may review visit data, such as timestamps and duration, alongside debrief content, to check for patterns that may indicate a safety concern or to support program evaluation;
- we may suspend, decline to match, or remove any participant based on background-check results, safety concerns, or violations of our community standards, at our discretion; and
- we may report suspected abuse, exploitation, or other harm to law enforcement, adult- or child-protective services, or other appropriate authorities, and may preserve and disclose related information as we determine appropriate or as required by law. Nothing in these Terms limits any reporting obligation we may have under applicable law.
You will not: attempt to contact, meet, or arrange contact with a minor Weaver outside the Service or outside a scheduled, disclosed visit; request or exchange money, gifts, or personal financial information with a matched participant; engage in threatening, harassing, exploitative, or abusive conduct toward any participant; or otherwise use the Service in a way that endangers another participant. Violation of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination and may be reported to appropriate authorities.
If you have a safety concern about a visit or another participant, please contact us at safety@beaweaver.com.
4. Text Messages (SMS)
If you give us your phone number, we may text you visit reminders, match notifications, and urgent safety alerts. Message and data rates may apply, and you can opt out anytime by replying STOP.
If you provide a mobile phone number, you consent to receive text messages from Weavers related to your account and participation, including visit reminders and scheduling notifications, match and pairing notifications, and safety or urgent alerts.
Message frequency varies based on your activity in the Program, typically 4-8 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out of text messages, or HELP for assistance. You can also contact us at hello@beaweaver.com. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services. See our full SMS Consent Terms and Privacy Policy for more detail.
5. Account Registration and Security
Keep your account info accurate and your login secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
You agree to provide true, accurate, and current information when registering, and to keep it updated. For a minor Weaver's account, the Parent is responsible for the account and for supervising the Weaver's use of the Service. You're responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account; tell us right away at safety@beaweaver.com if you suspect unauthorized use.
6. Acceptable Use
Use Weavers for its intended purpose — connecting Weavers and Silvers — and don't misuse the platform.
You will not: use the Service for any commercial purpose unrelated to the Program; scrape, copy, or reproduce Service content or other participants' information; attempt to bypass security or access controls; interfere with the proper operation of the Service; or use Service content, session data, debrief content, or recordings to train, develop, or improve any machine-learning model or AI system without our express written permission.
7. Content You Submit
If you send us feedback, survey answers, or other content, you're giving us permission to use it to run and improve the Program.
If you submit comments, survey responses, or other content to us (“Submissions”), you confirm you have the right to share it and that it isn't confidential. You grant Weavers a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and adapt your Submissions to operate and improve the Service. Debrief content, THRIVE Interview recordings, and other Program data are governed by Section 3 and our Privacy Policy, not by this section.
8. Ownership
The Weavers name, logo, and site content belong to us, so please don't copy or misuse them.
Excluding your Submissions, Weavers and our licensors own all content and materials on the Service, including text, graphics, and the Weavers name and logo. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute this content without our written permission.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
We use trusted vendors (like our background-check and messaging providers) and may link to outside sites. Those are not under our control.
The Service may link to or rely on third-party services, including VolunteerBadge (background checks and, in some cases, identity verification), Supabase (data storage), Twilio (messaging), and Anthropic (AI processing of debrief content), as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the content, practices, or availability of third-party sites or services you access through the Service.
10. No Medical, Mental Health, or Crisis Services
Weavers supports social connection, companionship, and skill-building. It is not a medical, mental-health, therapeutic, or emergency service, and it is not a substitute for professional care. Silvers and Weavers are program participants, not licensed professionals acting in that capacity, and nothing in the Service constitutes medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.
If you or anyone else may be in danger or experiencing a medical or mental-health emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, immediately.
11. Suspension and Termination
We can suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or raise safety concerns, and you can leave anytime.
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, if we're unable to verify information you've provided, if a background check raises concerns, or if we believe your conduct poses a risk to another participant or to us. Upon termination, we may delete your account data as described in our Privacy Policy, subject to any legal retention requirements.
12. Disclaimers
YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY MATCH, BACKGROUND CHECK, OR SAFETY MEASURE WILL PREVENT ALL HARM. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE CONDUCT OF ANY PARTICIPANT.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WEAVERS AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED [PLACEHOLDER — CONFIRM AMOUNT, e.g., $25 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PRIOR 12 MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER]. These limitations don't apply where prohibited by law.
14. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify Weavers against claims, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of another person's rights or applicable law.
15. Dispute Resolution
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY — IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
If we ever have a dispute, we agree to resolve it through individual arbitration rather than in court, and neither of us can bring a class action. You can opt out of this within 30 days of agreeing to these Terms.
You and Weavers agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, or your use of the Service will be resolved exclusively through final and binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules (or, if the amount in controversy exceeds $100,000, its Comprehensive Arbitration Rules), rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
No Class Relief. The arbitrator may resolve only your and Weavers' individual claims and has no authority to arbitrate any claim on a class, representative, or consolidated basis.
Opting Out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by notifying us in writing at hello@beaweaver.com within 30 days of first becoming subject to it, including your name, address, account email, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out.
Governing Law. This arbitration provision is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act. To the extent any dispute is not subject to arbitration, it will be governed by the laws of Delaware, and the state and federal courts located in Delaware will have exclusive jurisdiction.
16. General Terms
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and SMS Consent Terms, are the entire agreement between you and Weavers regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of our right to do so later. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, consistent with the commitments in our Privacy Policy.
